What are degressive glasses?

Proximity glasses or degressive glasses are based on a lens technology derived from progressive lenses; these glasses offer presbyopes of varying ages clear multi-distance vision:

  • perfect near vision for reading and precision work
  • proximity vision for screen work, reading music for musicians, etc.
  • intermediate vision to see your interlocutor or colleague clearly without removing your glasses.

These glasses are an innovation for 21st century presbyopes because they allow comfortable work in front of screens. The design of these lenses helps the wearer in their daily life by preventing neck pain thanks to a more physiological head posture.

Indeed, progressive glasses are not the ideal equipment for working in front of a computer; you are forced to adopt a head posture resembling that of a "turtle". Opting for a pair of proximity glasses means opting for additional comfort.

Presbyopes looking for visual comfort in front of screens

Many new presbyopes who did not have visual problems are hesitant to wear glasses equipped with progressive lenses. Indeed, they do not experience any discomfort for far vision activities such as sports, driving... their need is for near and intermediate vision. For them, rather than choosing basic single-vision lenses for near vision, it is smart to choose degressive glasses with lenses specifically designed for screen work and reading. These glasses, also called semi-progressive glasses by many ophthalmologists, allow the patient to gently adapt to the geometry of multi-distance lenses.

Indeed, 60% of presbyopes use a computer and lenses that are not necessarily suitable for near vision. 75% of them experience visual fatigue after a day in front of the computer.

Proximity lenses are therefore preferable for presbyopes who spend many hours in front of a screen.

Varionet degressive glasses contribute to your ocular comfort and visual protection in front of screens: television, computer, smartphone, tablet, e-reader.

MAVU opticians have developed an anti-reflective anti-blue light treatment "Cool Blue" which, through a filter, reduces the harmful effects of screens on the body: headaches, dry, red and stinging eyes, neck pain, loss of concentration at the end of the day...
