All safety glasses sold by Varionet comply with various personal protective equipment safety standards: prescription safety glasses, vision protection glasses for presbyopes, or non-prescription safety glasses.
EN 166 standard? What is it?
This European standard applies to all individual eye protectors used during various activities in the professional world (laboratory, industry, construction) or at home (DIY, gardening). This equipment is necessary for all activities that present a risk of damaging the eye and eyelids and/or impairing vision. The EN 166 standard certifies the quality of the PPE supplied. The robustness of the equipment and the optical quality of the safety glasses lenses are tested by an independent laboratory.
The lenses must be marked as follows:
Optical class notation:
- 1: perfect optical quality for continuous work, permanent wear
- 2: for intermittent work
Mechanical resistance symbols:
- F: low-energy impact; resistance to impact from a 6 mm diameter, 0.86 g steel ball launched at 45 m/s
- S: reinforced robustness; resistance to impact from a 22 mm diameter, 43 g steel ball launched at 5.1 m/s
The frame is marked with the mechanical resistance symbols:
- EN166: guarantees minimum resistance of glasses to common risks.
- F: low-energy impact; resistance to impact from a ⌀ 6 mm, 0.86 g steel ball launched at 45 m/s
- S: reinforced robustness; resistance to impact from a ⌀ 22 mm, 43 g steel ball launched at 5.1 m/s
- T: inscribed immediately after the mechanical resistance symbol. Authorizes the use of glasses at extreme temperatures (-5°C to +55°C).
- CE: European standards.
