According to a study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, e-readers interfere with sleep . This study was carried out on 12 adults for 2 weeks in a controlled setting with a time slot intended for reading on an e-reader. Indeed the different individuals had to read 4 hours (from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) on devices of different brands. During their nights, the researchers analyzed various elements such as falling asleep time or sleep duration . The results of this study show that the light given off by the screens of e-readers blocks the production of melatonin , the sleep hormone . and creates a sleep imbalance . Even more surprising and disturbing, the study shows that using a screen before falling asleep is felt in the morning, individuals feel more fatigued . The study also shows that the consequences of this blue light can be very negative long-term.
